We were not actually invited to pitch this business. We don't take no for an answer very well. So we developed concepts anyway. We created a series of blogs to tell our story of football from high school to college to pro. We delivered this message to the client in a pdf of the poster above, that was linked to the main blog. It did not win us the business but it made a great impression, which is what we truly wanted to accomplish.

New Project

This is a freelance project I recently had done. Well more like the tip of the iceberg of a project. I did 10 versions car wraps for 6 schools. This was the first on completed. The general idea was to make these feel like a rally car, to appeal to high school seniors and yet not put off any adults who might have interest in continuing education. Using the rally car design it gave the ability to showcase courses of study as sponsor logos would appear on an actual rally car.

Here's To Beer- The American Brew

This project combined two of my favorite things, Movies and beer. The here's to Beer group was having a documentary made by Ken Burns production company on the history of American beer. We were able to sell in this simple iconic poster I had designed. I art directed the photo shoot and retouching of the glass. This poster lead to getting to design the dvd case, display, the trade show booth at the G.A.B.F and then a series of full page ads that ran in USA today.

Knology

This is a cable, internet and phone provider that I have done freelance full campaign work for through a small St. Louis agency. It has covered pretty much everything a person can do. From concepting what the campaign is, to executing TV, radio, direct mail, print, outdoor and many other odds and ends. The campaign was done in 3 phases. They have been a very fun client to do work for. This is just a small sample of the amount of work that has been done. And there will be much more coming up since we just presented the campaign ideas for 2010. It will prove to be an even more fun year.

Bud Light- Total Entertainment Challenge

TEC was an on-premise game that used technology and music to connect with consumers. This was the second year of the successful program. CMT's would approach patrons in a bar or club and with a video ipod play music and video triva games, where people could win cool merchandise. The sign-making needed to be hip and techy feeling to help show what the program was all about.

Federal Ammunition

We were charged with coming up with a new advertising campaign for Federal Ammunition. We wanted something that would stand out from everything else in hunting and fishing magazines. Most ads in those magazines use similar photography and a similar color palette. Our idea was called "What's Inside" it was all about the fact that hunters come in every shape, size and occupation. We wanted to tell their story through their expression and the shadow they cast. This look also had to translate to TV.

Bud Light- Thumb Wrestling

Anheuser Busch was looking for on-premise ideas to replace their Paper, Rock, Scissors game. Working as the creative director on this project, we needed a simple universal game that everyone could quickly understand. What better than Thumb Wrestling. We went with the cheesy factor that wrestling has. We developed an entire POS kit and did a test market at bars in Columbia, Missouri. As you can see in the video people had a great time playing.

GM Card

This was an in-concert video that I did for GM card for their sponsorship of a Kenny Chesney tour. This would run before the show and in-between the acts. It was to drive traffic to the GM card booth, where if someone signed up for a card, they got a free cd that had exclusive tracks and a chance to win great seats.

Coke- Football Town, Super Bowl

Coke didn't have NFL rights but still always needed football POS. Since it's the biggest home party time of the year. I was the art director for all the POS and the photo shoot. The last piece shown here was the spectacular. It had motion as well. The people would high-five each other and the guy would signal touchdown.

Sprite- Clear

I was in charge of Sprite planning. This particular year our client asked for an idea that in her words, would get her fired. She wanted true out there thinking on top of the standard ideas. I focused on what Sprite has that other drinks don't. It's clear. And every non-brown soda is always in a green bottle. So lets put all that the product is out there. It was a hit. It had it's own code name in the Coke corporate headquarters in Atlanta, "project tarmac". But then they got cold feet and used the idea for Sprite remix rather than for the actual Sprite brand. But it was a fun and exciting ride while it lasted.

Drive- Direct Mail

The agency I was working at wanted to do a direct mail, self promotion piece that would target outdoors companies. We wanted a fun message but a piece that might actually get hung up on a potential clients wall. So we created this simple fun poster.

Anheuser Busch- Reign Water

This was a fun product development project. AB was working on creating a water. They discovered that P. Diddy was interested in promoting a water. We did a lot of research on naming, bottle shapes, logo designs and moods. As with many other ventures between two huge brands, this one ended up going nowhere. But it's still cool fun stuff.

Hardee's- Eat Thick Ride Wide

I loved doing work for Hardee's. They don't try to mince words or be safe. This was a simple promotion. Eat a thickburger and you could win a Harley. The one problem we had to overcome, was having no media budget to tell people about the promotion. So we developed a website that people would go enter their game piece code at, but the main feature at the site was a burger jumper game. It was a fun simple, addictive game, that players could pass onto their friends. It was a success, we had over 350,000 unique visitors come and play the game. Not bad for nothing more than word of mouth.

Concord Mills

My last two years working at Kiku Obata & Co. was spent working as a graphic designer on this project. It was a 1.5 million square ft. mall in Concord North Carolina. We did everything from the pattern of the wood floor, to the wall colors, to the concrete pattern of the building, to every bit of signage. My personal favorite part was when I had suggested that in the entertainment court we do two huge graffiti murals. For the comps faking this in photoshop was ok, but I knew that would never cut it in real life. I found Estria (an awesome graffiti muralist in San Francisco) who made my idea a reality.

Coke was launching some new colors for their trademarked cup. I took a pretty simple bit of new news and showed it off in a cool simple way. All the focus of the POS was on color and the cup.

Landscape Brands

Landscape brands makes outdoor industrial furniture. They wanted to update their look of their trade show. And we gave them much much more. We came up with an entire new strategy. A new look for their company logo and a new way to identify each product line, as well as creating and updating each of those lines logos. We also wanted that shiny object that would help draw people into their booth, so we went to one of their plants and put together this video to play at their shows. It took what was mundane to them and made it interesting and eye catching.

Any job that gets to let me design things for something I love (like football) is always just that much more fun. This was a regional program I worked on. I designed all the POS, packaging and a promotional poster. I did the logo and go to fly down to Miami to do the shoot with Dante Culpepper. He was one of the biggest humans I have ever met.

Sprite- Thirst 4 Winning

I worked on the Coke and Sprite brands for many years. This was a promotion that was a blast to do. I designed the logo and the entire POS program. I also got to fly around the country for photo shoots with the NBA players. All the guys were very cool. We were doing stand-ups as part of the POS, so we wanted some action shots. So I had them dribbling, passing etc. I got to be the recipient of the passes from the players. It was pretty cool.

Comcast

For about two years at Momentum I was the head creative on the Comcast business. We handled their big box retail business of Cable, Internet and phone services. I worked on everything from custom built displays to POS to print to TV. I spent a lot of time with the clients meeting with Best Buy and Circuit City, and other retailers to help determine what our retail options were, and what would serve us best.

Mirage Girls

This was one of those pro-bono projects that ended up going nowhere, but it doesn't mean the concept or design was a bad thing. This was a promo poster for a belly dancing troupe. We did their logo and the poster would have a pin with a belly button on it, placed on the poster. The pin would have the troupes website on the back of it. The thought was hopefully people would see the poster and steal the pin, creating more word of mouth.
